2011 Premiums for Average Daily GainPremiums for Average Daily Gain for Calvert County 4-H Market Livestock Projects How well an animal grows is a reflection of genetics, feeding, management, and care of the animal. 4-H teaches youngsters numerous life skills, including the responsibility involved in raising animals and how important it is for one to learn all they can about that species to do well with them. When a 4-H member takes on the task of a market livestock project, each animal is weighed and tagged at the beginning of the project. They are weighed at the conclusion of the project during the fair, and their growth rates can be determined via calculation of Average Daily Gain (ADG). Premiums for Average Daily Gain (ADG) will be awarded to Calvert 4-H members for their market livestock projects. The responsibility, recordkeeping, and diligence required to successfully complete a livestock project translates into an example of positive youth development for the 4-H members involved. Premiums will be awarded for each species, as indicated below.
