


Calvert County Fair Idol![]() Entry: Each Contestant must submit an entry form, questionnaire, a $10 entry fee (checks made payable to Calvert County Fair) along with a photograph. All forms, entry fees and photos must be postmarked by August 30, 2011 and mailed to: Entry form and photograph may also be sent via email to calvertidol@yahoo.com Email entries must also be received by August 30, 2011. The $10 entry fee may be paid at the time of audition. This contest is for single vocalists only. Each contestant may enter only once. Auditions will be sung acapella. Any question please contact Calvert County Fair Board at 410-535-0026 Eligibility: This contest is open to all amateur (contestant does not perform professionally for a living) entertainers between the ages of 14-28 years old. Proof of age will be required at audition. Professional (contracted musicians or those whose talent is a principle source of income) are not permitted to enter. Entrants do NOT have to be a resident of Calvert County; this contest is open to Calvert, Anne Arundel, Charles, St. Mary’s and Prince George’s Counties. Members of the Calvert County Fair Board are not permitted to enter.
If you are a finalist, you must be available on all dates listed: Thursday September 29th, Friday September 30th, Saturday October 1st, and Sunday October 2nd in the evening. Finalists are to be checked in by 6:00pm Thursday thru Saturday, and by 2:00pm Sunday due time required for set-up.
All photographs will become the property of the Calvert County Fair and may be published in future Fairbooks. The Top 12 Contestants will be required to participate in the Opening Ceremony Parade on Wednesday September 28, 2010 at 6:00 pm and will perform as a group on stage shortly there after. A “warm up” for the contestants will be Wednesday night before the karaoke contest. Auditions: The contest consists of four parts: Auditions, Idol Show, Semi-finals and Finals. Audition dates are September 7th and 8th. Registration starts at 6:30 pm at the Main Gate at the Calvert County Fair Grounds. Auditions will be performed in front of a group of judges selected by the Calvert County Fair. All performances will be done with the contestant and judges in the room only, no friends and/or family. All lyrics must be memorized-no props, prompters or note cards may be used. Acts may NOT accompany themselves with an acoustic guitar, piano or electric instruments. Time limit is 2 minutes. “Idol Show” Entries will be narrowed down to 12 Contestants selected from all auditions to advance to the “Idol Show” on Thursday September 29th at 7pm at the Calvert County Fair. The twelve Contestants will be chosen by a panel of judges selected by the Calvert County Fair. All judge’s decisions are final. Semi-finals: Contestants will be narrowed down to 6 acts selected from the “Idol Show”. The six Contestants will perform in the semi-finals on Friday September 30th at 7pm. The top 3 finalists will be announced the same evening as the competition. Results are final. Finals: At the finals on Saturday October 1st, judge’s vote will determine which of the three finalists will receive the title “2011 Top 3 must be available to perform November 5th at our Annual Fair Convention in St. Mary’s County. Fair Admission: The Top 12 Contestants who are selected to perform in the ”Idol Show” , the Top 6 and then the Top 3 will receive entry into the fair on the dates of the contests. Parking is free. Dressing Rooms: There will be no dressing rooms available. Personal outfit or clothing: The Calvert County Fair is a family event. Any profanity or sexually suggestive material on clothing will not be allowed. Inappropriate attire or song lyrics will not be allowed. Judges will have the right to disqualify any Contestant. Judging: Judge’s decisions are final. Scores may or may not be released to the contestant. Performances will be judged by a panel of judges. Contestants will be judged on: -Voice -Strength in high and low register -Pitch -Holding note when necessary -Tone -Stage Presence -Eye contact -Facial Expressions -Body Language -Connection with audience -No jeans, work boots or sports wear -Entertainment Value -Song choice in relation to contestant’s voice -memory of words/melody -interpretation of music -Overall Impression -Is this person an opening act? Song Selection: Auditions are song of your choice. The 12 “Idol Show” Contestants will be given a song genre. Top 6 will also be given a song genre. The final 3 contestants will do a song of their choice. The Fair will provide the sound system for Top 12 and on. All contestants will use the sound system provided. Recorded accompaniment for Finalists: Vocalists may use recorded accompaniment, provided it contains instrumental accompaniments ONLY; some background singing may be allowed on the recording but will be at the discretion of the judges. Only a CD will be used, no cassette tapes. If a “self-made” CD will be used, please bring a back up CD with you. Not all self-made CD’s are readable on all machines. Your name and track number must be clearly labeled on the CD. If you are not able to bring your own CD the Fair will be able to provide a list of songs you may use. Awards: First place: $1000 Second place: $500 Third place: $300 There is no music contract. This is strictly a Calvert County Fair talent contest. This contest is not affiliated with any other “Idol” or talent competition.
