2009 Fairbook in Honor of

In Honor of Our Friend George Everhart

George Everhart is a familiar fixture at the Calvert County Fair.  Known as the “man at the gate”, George’s wonderful sense of humor and magnetic personality have greeted fairgoers for many years.  His dedication to the Fair and commitment to community service are matched by few.

George Everhart was born in Washington D.C. on November 30, 1928.  George and his sister, Ethel and brothers, Cecil and Julian were raised by his mother as his father died when George was twelve.  George met Ruth Pixton while growing up in Washington and they were married on August 13, 1949.  They had 3 children-Sharon, Linda and Gary.  George and Ruth have 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

George went to work for the Potomac Electric Power Company at Buzzard Point in Washington, D.C. in 1952. He transferred to Chalk Point in Charles County in the early 1960’s and moved his family to Calvert County.

George is an active member of his local community helping the elderly living near him and in the upkeep of the neighborhood.  George was also an active member of the Calvert Elks Lodge.  He enjoyed cooking for the public and was known for his Sunday seafood dinners.

It is with gratitude and appreciation for years of devoted service that the Calvert County Fair Board dedicates the 2009 Fairbook in honor of our friend and colleague George Everhart.
