CONTESTS AND CLUB EXHIBITS

SECTION A
4-H CLUB BOOTHS
Open to all Calvert County 4-H Clubs ONLY
AWARDS: 1st-$10  2nd-$9  3rd-$8

Size: Booth dimensions are to be 47" x 35"deep x 22" high.The back of the booth must be 47" wide by 22" high.  The bottom of the booth must be 47  All booth entries must be self-contained.  All others will not qualify" wide by 36" deep.  The sides must be in the shape of a right triangle, using the follow dimensions: 22" x 36" x 48".  All booths muse be self contained.  All others will not qualify for award premium.  Theme of booth should depict 4-H projects and/or activities
 
SECTION B
4-H CLUB BANNER
AWARDS:
1st-$10  2nd-$9  3rd-$8

Open to 4-H clubs in Calvert County.  Banner may be constructed of any type of durable materials with any type of applications that may be folded or rolled.  Applique', embroidery, and trapunto are suggested applications.  The design must be on one side only and be two-dimensional.  Only one idea should be expressed.  Baners must be a minimum of 12 square feet and a maximum of 16 square feet.  They must be constructed to hand on a rod or a pole provided by the exhibitor.

 
SECTION C
4-H & FFA COMPACT TRACTOR OPERATORS CONTEST

AWARDS: 1st - $5 2nd - $4 3rd - $3 4TH - $2 5TH - $1

Junior (ages 10-13) Seniors (ages 14-18)
This contest is designed to recognize proficiency in the care and handling of a compact tractor. All participants will take and pass a written exam and an identification quiz prior to taking the driving test.
A copy of the rules and regulations can be picked up at the Calvert County Extension Office the week prior to the fair or at the 4-H/Youth Building during fair week. All entrants must have the permission slip and rules and regulations signed by a parent or guardian prior to the contest. These may be obtained at the Calvert County Fair 4-H/Youth Building during the Fair. This contest is open to 4-H and or FFA members only. Date, Time, and location will be announced during the Fair.
 
Please note: A Compact Tractor Operators Contest Release form must be filled out and signed by the parent and/or Guardian prior to the Compact Tractor Operators Contest. These forms can be obtained at the 4-H / Youth Building during the Fair.

SECTION D

4-H & YOUTH PIE EATING CONTEST

All youth 6-18 years old of current year are invited to participate. Ribbons will be awarded. Cream pies will be used. Register in the 4-H & Junior Fair Building. Bibs will be provided. Number of participants will be limited. All entrants must have their form signed by a parent, or guardian.
 
Section E

4-H HORTICULTURAL JUDGING CONTEST

RULES AND REGULATIONS
Open to 4-H members only. Judging of all categories of vegetables, diseases, defects, seeds, weed, flowers, ornamentals, quality judging.

AWARDS: 1st - $5 2nd - $4 3rd - $3 4th - $2
 
1. 4-H Members, 8-10 years of age
2. 4-H Members, 11-13 years of age
3. 4-H Members, 14-18 years of age

Section G
4-H Dog Show

Obedience and Fitting & Showing Classes
 
Pre-registration is required. Contact the Extension Office 410-535-3663 or Charlene Fowble 301-855-2481.  Registration is due by September 10, 2009 - NO EXCEPTIONS! 
 
Rules and Regulations 
  • Open to 4-H members only.
  • Proper show attire is required.  We follow AKC rules:      Gentlemen - dress pants, shirt and tie;       Ladies - dress, skirt or dress pants and shirt.
  • Dogs must have appropriate leads for each class:       Fitting and Showing Lead - a choke collar may not be used during fitting and showing.            Choker and 6 ft. lead, choker may be nylon or metal, may be used in all other classes.
  • MAY NOT USE CHOCK COLLAR DURING FITTING AND SHOWING.  POINTS WIL BE DEDUCTED OTHERWISE.
  • If an exhibitor won first in the State Fair of the previous year or shows in AKC competition they must enter the open division in their age group.  
  • All dogs must be at least 4 months and must be accompanied by rabies certificate. Dog should be protected with DHLP plus Parvo inoculations. 
  • Exhibitor limited to ages 8 through 18 as of January 1 of the current year. 
  • Mixed breeds and purebreds may compete. 
  • No female dogs in season.
  • Each exhibitor may compete in one Fitting and Showing Class.
  • Exhibitors may show in one obedience class per dog. They may show multiple dogs as long as they are in different classes. 
  • All ring procedures and judging will follow the AKC regulations.
  • Exhibitor must GROOM animal without help (exception is breed requiring professiional trimming, EXAMPLE - poodles, etc.). Dog should be clean including coat, ears, eyes, teeth, nails clipped, and free of external parasites. Judges may ask various questions of handlers, including the exchange of dogs. Obstacles will be available for all advanced classes. 
  • Per MD State 4-h Policy, Clovers are not allowed to show dogs or any other animal projects.
  • Classes may be combined or deleted due to lack of entries.  No exhibitor may change their class on the day of the show.
  • All dogs must be under control at all times. Any dogs not under control will be disqualified and asked to be removed from the Fairgrounds 
  • Ribbons will be awarded for all classes 1st - 6th. Trophies will be awarded for overall high point Fitting & Showing and Obedience.
  • Exhibitors must provide water and watering containers for their animals
  • ALL DOGS WILL BE CRATED WHEN NOT IN THE SHOW RING AND CONFINED TO A SPECIFIED AREA.  If dogs are found to be outside of the specified area, the exhibitor will be disqualified and all prized and premiums forfeited.
