Section E - Poultry
 
Rules and Regulations
Open to the five Southern Maryland Counties.

1.  Entries must be received by September 12th.  No entry will be accepted that is not pre-registered.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  Health papers must be attached to registration entry from.  Registration entry forms must be filled out completely.

3.  To show birds in the State of Maryland, you must provide a Maryland Domestic Poultry & Exotic Bird Premises Registation ID number.
 
4.  Cooping-in day is Tuesday (fair week) from noon-8 p.m.
 
5.  All exhibits must be removed from the Poultry Building between 6 and 8 p.m. on Sunday after the fair closes.
 
6.  Any exhibits still remaining after 8 p.m. will become the property of the poultry and rabbit Department Chairperson to handle as they see fit.
 
7.  All birds must be Pullorum tested and banded and a copy of test papers to be held until after the show with the exception of waterfowl and pigeons.  They must also be tested for Avian Influenza which takes 14 days.  If exhibitor owns 30 or less birds, all birds including waterfowl must be tested for Avian Influenza.  If exhibitor owns 40 or more birds, only 30 need to be tested for Avian Influenza.
 
8.  Notice: All species of fowl entered in the fair will be subject to daily inspection by a representative of the Maryland Livestock Sanitary Service. All birds showing symptoms of any disease will be disqualified and must be removed immediately from the building for the duration of the fair, and isolated, as directed by the Livestock Sanitary Service representative. Such birds may not be returned to the building for the duration of the fair. When notified of any sick species you must remove them within 24 hours.
 
9.  Be sure to state whether your entry is Large Fowl Poultry, Bantams, Ducks, Geese, Pigeons, Turkeys or Pheasants. Only recognized breeds and varieties will be accepted. Give name and variety as shown in the American poultry Association “Standard of Perfection”.
 
10.  The same bird cannot compete in both the open and 4-H/Youth classes.
 
11.  All birds shown must be the property of the exhibitor as least 3 months before the fair.
 
12.  Specimens will be fed and watered and cared for by the Poultry Department staff.
 
13.  Judging will be by comparison and governed by the American Poultry Association “Standard of Perfection.”  All specimens shall be exhibited in their natural conditions, with the exception of Game and Game Bantams.
 
14.  Class 1  Cock - Male hatched prior to 2007 
       Class 2  Hen - Female hatched prior to 2007 
       Class 3  Cockerel - Male hatched after January 1, 2007 
       Class 4  Pullet - Female hatched after January 1, 2007
 
15.  Each exhibitor will be limited to a maximum of 40 birds or 40 rabbits.
 
16.  No advertising cards or inscriptions will be allowed on coops until after judging has been completed.  
 
17.  No Trios or pairs will be shown.
 
18.  No exhibitor may enter more than one exhibit per class (same breeds).
 
19.  Any animals sold by Exhibitor will be the sole responsibility of the seller and buyer. Calvert County Fair, Inc. will not be held responsible for any difficulties between the seller and the buyer.
 
20.  The management will not be responsible for loss by fire and otherwise, but will exercise all vigilance in the care of exhibits. The greatest care will be taken of all specimens, but the fair will not be responsible for accidents, mistake, loss, damage, from whatever arises. The specimen is being exhibited at the sole risk of the exhibitors.
 
Awards Information:  Classes will be offered for Cock, Hen, Cockerel and Pullet for each variety. Large Fowl Poultry, Bantams, Ducks, Geese, Pigeons, Turkeys, and Pheasants.
 
Award offered with 2 or more in class: 1st-$4  2nd-$3  3rd-$2  Only one in class-$3

Section F - Rabbits
 
All rabbits will be inspected by staff of poultry and rabbit department before they can be cooped.  A daily inspection will be made by the Department of Agriculture.  Any rabbit showing signs of any sickness will be removed from the show.
